We were delighted to photograph Catherine and Joe’s Zetter Town House wedding in Clerkenwell, followed by a a blessing ceremony in Smithfield’s fantastic St Bart’s Brewery, and then a reception there afterwards.

We have worked at the Zetter many times, in fact there are two of these great hotels in Clerkenwell central London. One is an original Georgian Town House built next to historic St John’s Square,  and the other is a modern version known simply as the Zetter Hotel built directly onto Clerkenwell Road Farringdon itself. It too is a brilliant and quirky hotel that we have photographed bride and groom’s wedding morning preparations on countless occasions over the last twelve years. This time it was groom Joe at the newer building and bride Catherine in the intimate Georgian splendour of the Town House.

The legal ceremony was downstairs at the Zetter Town House in what it known as “The Games Room.” It’s an intimate space and was perfect suited to the couple’s plan for a close family only ceremony and subsequent lunch. The more public blessing ceremony and reception for a large crowd of friends and family was well served by the large St Bart’s Brewery at the edge of Smithfield market.

We had a fun time with new bride and groom around the streets of Clerkenwell doing a variety of couple shots before the reception and the short walk to old Smithfield.

Catherine took time back at the hotel to change into a different outfit for the blessing and reception, while Joe busied himself on a meet and greet at the St Bart’s reception venue. St Bart’s is of course a short way of saying Saint Bartholomew’s.

The blessing ceremony itself was hosted by a chaplain from nearby St Bart’s Hospital, and was an emotional yet joyous affair followed by the party of all parties to see out a tremendous wedding day in a very historic part of central London. Definitely a highlight of 2020 for us.

Last ever Islington Town Hall Wedding…before lockdown

By Barnet Wedding Photographers, London venues and events, London Wedding Photographer, London Wedding Photographers, Wedding VenuesOne Comment

This was a truly lovely and somewhat surreal wedding spent with Alex and Brett, for the very last wedding ceremony at Islington Town Hall before London’s end of March lockdown.

It felt a privilege, and quite honestly inwardly a little sad for me, to document a special day which none of us knew from the registrars to general staff of the Town Hall, when any of us would be back.

That didn’t dent the energy of myself or this really fantastic couple and their three guests. One photographer only (David) plus five people, that’s all we were legally allowed!

No reception either, as the government at that time had already ordered the closing of venues.

Anyway, I had a good sense of what Alex and Brett were looking for from our chats on the phone, and as a former resident of the borough and a very frequent wedding photographer at Islington Town Hall, I knew where to go and where the light would be in the surrounding area.

Meeting firstly in front of that imposing Islington landmark we hit the ground running, with literally energy and laughter all the way.

We really love people and what we do and I think time and again it shows in the photography and the good-natured energy we bring to every wedding. Check out our Google reviews to read what previous couples think of us here: Google wedding reviews

Bride and groom hug Islington Town Hall Mayors Parlour

We spent just under thirty minutes on our pre-ceremony travels before returning to the Majors Parlour for the big event. Ahh how we love the Mayors Parlour. Why? Because that’s where we were married ourselves, so it’s always very special to return to that particular part of the Town Hall.

After a suitably touching and intimate ceremony and some quick shots in the nearby corridors, it was time for the world’s smallest confetti throw on the steps leading to Upper Street!

I said my goodbyes as these crazy cats skipped away down the street and I rode off in the sunset.

Big Day Weddings image collage 3 2019

All in all a busy year and it’s a good job we are full-time otherwise we would have struggled! With that in mind we made a conscious decision not to follow the crowd and blog incessantly to appease Google, nor to post a zillion images on Instagram. We put our time and effort into our weddings and home life too.

In 2020 to keep the right balance we are limiting our weddings to thirty five a year. That way we will be fresh and able to put maximum effort into every wedding we capture, and the post production and editing that is needed afterwards. It will also give us time to put quality attention towards our kids and hobbies as well.

Having said that we will still be living in perpetual wedding land, in that we will continue to spend our working hours shooting, editing, speaking to you, and planning the many special days we are entrusted with. Bearing that in mind always feel free to get in touch whether that’s by email, phone, Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger or smoke signals. Whatever floats your boats!

Speak soon 🙂

There’s something endlessly fascinating about the streets of central London. It’s not just the rich history of our capital, it’s the architecture, it’s the energy and the sheer variety of what is around us. Whenever we work there for a wedding day we remain  equally motivated and fascinated by this environment.

When we spoke with V and B we were as ever excited to be working in iconic areas, and this time it was to be Shoreditch and Moorgate, which had a lot of both personal and professional history for them.

The day was to start at B’s local pub with the boys at the Old Blue Last on Great Eastern Street, and a bit of fun in a few places around the block. The Old Blue Last has a very colourful history, including being a formal brothel, site of a theatre Shakespeare hung out at and is now a vibrant music venue too.

V and her bridesmaids were getting ready at the Montcalm Hotel in Finsbury Square. Joanna started there and I joined her after a while.

The venue foe the ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception was the rather fabulous Eight Club Moorgate. A lovely members club with fine dining, private meeting rooms and large airy modern spaces with terraces around making it a special place to host a wedding ceremony and reception.

V and B chose a celebrant to host their ceremony and to make it meaningfully personalised for them, and we have to say she did an excellent job.

Their recessional was played out to bubbles from the guests and Sucker for You by The Jonas Brothers. I have to admit to being a little bit of a sucker for that track myself.

Bridal party walking through Shoreditch wedding streets

Whilst the guests enjoyed their drinks reception on the sunlit terraces of Eight Club, we took to the surrounding streets of Moorgate and Shoreditch to do some shots once again in places that had memories and meaning for the couple.

In my opinion that’s the best kind of wedding day, one that is filled with relevance and meaning to the couple themselves. While a country mansion is great too, unless it was your ancestral l home (!!!!) I don’t think it could resonate quite the same way.

The wedding breakfast and speeches were in the stylish Quartier restaurant level of the club, while the upstairs bar and terrace areas were readied for the first dance and evening partying.

All in all a great day, and a special mention to the staff of Eight Club Moorgate who were great throughout the ceremony, reception and party.

Was this our best year ever? 12 months of wedding photography inside…

By Barnet Wedding Photographers, London Wedding Photographer, Wedding VenuesNo Comments

Goodbye 2019. Hello 2020. That was one great year of wedding photography with truly special big days we were super excited and privileged to be a part of.

Tanner warehouse wedding at the Shard photo

For us all wedding days are fantastic to be a part of, and we worked our socks off to do every single one of them justice for the couples and their guests.

Eleven years of London and Home Counties wedding photography has not dimmed our enthusiasm, in fact every year it grows as does our experience and technique.

London wedding photography collage two

Looking ahead to the next 365 days we have our usual mixture of iconic venues, hipster hangouts, warehouses, stately homes and Victorian gastro boozers to look forward to. A whole host of new places and faces to explore, and also a return to favourites St Paul’s Cathedral, The Gherkin, The Shard, London Zoo and Tower Bridge.

In truth though it doesn’t matter if the venue is humble or spectacular, for us it is about the people and making them happy with an approach and imagery that they value.

We are lovers of wedding photography and its challenges, but we never ever forget that we are in the service industry, and that it is about the couple first and foremost and what is best for them.

Wedding-couple-kiss-under-Tower-Bridge-London-photo

It’s interesting that a few brides and grooms told us last year that they felt many photographers they were talking to were more interested in the possibly photogenic venue to shoot at rather than the plans of the couple themselves. That’s a mistake because great photography can be anywhere.

Groomsmen walk to Trinity Wharf wedding ceremony

We don’t blog every wedding, very simply because we are busy both photographing and living our lives. Every year we shoot between thirty and forty weddings. That’s enough for us to give the right level of time and attention to every one of those big days. Once we have our limit of bookings we stop for that calendar year, unless it’s an emergency to help someone out.

There are some 2019 weddings that were highlights we haven’t blogged, so we choose some of the favourites from the ones we did in our featured collages. Hope you enjoy and feel free to ask to see a whole wedding, which on average will be over 1000 individually edited images we present to each couple.
