We all love a Chelsea Old Town Hall Wedding!

Yes we do all love a Chelsea Old Town Hall Wedding, especially myself David. What’s not to love? A renowned iconic venue on the world famous Kings Road. Great registrars and staff, even the guys that hoover up your confetti afterwards are charming and smile while they do it!

All around the venue you have great spots to grab some family and couple snaps, plus some I’ve discovered tucked away that not many others know about, so shhhhh….

However I’m not going to be renaming myself Mr. Chelsea anytime soon. By that I mean recently I was getting a bit concerned that was how people were beginning to see me, as all I’ve had time to post recently was some of my seven visits to the town hall this year alone. In fairness to myself, and for anyone reading this, I’ve also photographed another 39 weddings this year to date. From Gloucestershire to all the home counties, plus countless big days in and around central London, including well know and more obscure hipster venues, other town halls, to St Paul’s Cathedral (for the fourth time).

Anyway, as usual I worked closely with my couple beforehand in the lead up, to understand exactly what they were looking for. K and C were lovely to work with and were most concerned about noticing me during their ceremony at the town hall, as they both wanted to be in their special moments without distraction. You can read in the Google review they gave me at the end of this post how happy they were with that and everything else 🙂

They had a great crowd with them, and we had some extra fun doing the confetti throw afterwards on Chelsea Old Town Hall’s iconic steps, especially with C trying to catch some of the petals in his mouth as he went along.

After a few group shots on the Kings Road I took the couple to some of my favourite spots for a few naturalistic portraits.

Not far away was our reception venue, the always classy Ivy Chelsea Garden restaurant. For this more intimate wedding the couple booked the very beautiful The Glasshouse. It’s a brilliant space with a very special ambience, I loved it.

I love all my wedding days, just sometimes I love some a little bit more than others, and I absolutely loved this Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding with this super couple.

I would like to wish them all the very best for the future, and say thank you for the Google review too!

Well seen as I have worked at six Chelsea Old Town Hall weddings in the last three months, I felt entitled to write a confident blog title like ‘Find a Chelsea Old Town Hall Wedding Photographer today’ and to speak from experience 🙂

I thought it also about time to do a quick post of at least one of them in an increasing busy but very happy schedule!

Chelsea is one of what I would call the “Big Three” main and famous town halls of central London. It’s busy, many couples want to get married there, and many photographers want to be the ones to do it. It’s also had it’s fair share of very famous couples too as any quick Google search will show.

I (David) find I do a real mix of wedding timelines there. Sometimes it’s near the beginning of a longer day after groom and bridal prep, then on to a reception venue somewhere else. Other times it’s four or so hours, a half day, of ceremony, couple shoot and off to a local restaurant. And other times again, usually on a week day it’s two hours of ceremony and couple/family moments.

In peak times, like weekends I’m doing eight or nine hours if it involves a London Town Hall or Home Counties venue, sometimes four in winter. Week days I’m always very happy to pop to Chelsea for a couple of hours and help make great memories.

Here I feature D and H. Nice to know that D is a wedding planner, so I was extra pleased she choose me for a two hour wedding coverage in the week. On thing I hear too often though, is people saying they wished they had booked me for longer 🙂

This recent Thursday started with meeting H the groom first and then waiting for D to arrive in their Audi A8. They live in Chelsea so it wasn’t a long drive! This was an intimate ceremony with just both sets of parents involved, so a wedding party of four.

Afterwards it was three people involved in that iconic confetti throw on Chelsea Old Town Hall steps.

Though small in number the throw was still great fun.

I did some quick group shots back inside, and then took D and H to some of my favourite spots in the surrounding area. Weather wise a typical English day, sunny, then overcast, then sunny, then: is it going to rain…?

Finally H went of in the Audi to pick up their much loved dog so that we could involve him in the day and get him into some of the shots too.

Wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall with Laura and James

Perhaps one of London’s most famous wedding venues is Chelsea Old Town Hall. It’s certainly a place we love to photograph at and we are always excited to return there. Along with Camden Town Hall and Marylebone we would say it is part of central London’s holy trinity of civil wedding venues!

Laura and James chose it partly as James grew up in the near vicinity, but for some of the couples we have photographed, it has been so desirable and so much a symbol of London that they have come from as far as Newcastle and Paris to celebrate their union there.

Confetti throwing at Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding

This wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall actually began in Friern Barnet with Laura and her bridesmaids preparations at her parents home. At the same time we photographed James with friends and family at a watering hole in the Kings Road. That is of course one of the beauties of having more than one photographer! Although David has photographed quite a few smaller wedding days on his own in Chelsea, this one was larger and definitely benefited from Joanna’s presence too.

This special day we also worked alongside Martin Family and his associate videographer Koon from Special Occasion Videos (link at the end of this post). Both these guys have such a relaxed but professional nature that they are always a pleasure to work with, and like ourselves always aim to add to a wedding day without dominating anything in the proceedings. When you are experienced but passionate about what you do then this becomes second nature.

After a ceremony full of love laughter and smiles it was time for that iconic confetti throw on the steps of the old town hall. We always get a sense of deja vu at that point but of course everytime it is totally different.

Once all the hugs kisses and congratulations had been done Joanna travelled with the general wedding party to the reception venue in Enfield North London, while I took Laura and James to some favourite spots I use regularly for couple shots. This included a little trip into the Sydney Arms pub on the way.

Once again although we may often shoot in the same general areas in Chelsea, naturally every bride and groom is different and the opportunities that arise and the approach  we take to photography and style reflects this. It is essential that the wedding photography suits the tastes and sensibilities of the people involved, and we pride ourselves on both achieving and surpassing this.

I actually travelled to the reception with Laura and James in their wedding car which I enjoyed but I have to say this is not normal and we don’t expect this kind of service from you!

The reception was at an equestrian centre that Laura runs in Enfield, and she and James had arranged a large marquee on the grounds for the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. Family and friends photos were shot there as well as a great deal of the usual naturalistic documentary style of coverage of everyone that makes up an important part of every single wedding day.
