Bridesmaids laughing at Lords Cricket Ground wedding

Another great wedding at Lord’s Cricket Ground

By Barnet Wedding Photographers, London Wedding Photographer, Wedding VenuesOne Comment

Lord’s Cricket Ground in St Johns Wood has to be one of our favourite venues, and a truly special and memorable place to host a wedding day. As a theatre of sport it is now over two hundred years old, and it will probably be entertaining crowds and cricket fans in another two hundred years too!

Fiona and Andy chose it as Andy is a massive cricket fan, and Fiona was open minded to a venue with a difference to celebrate their marriage.

The day started with documenting bride and groom’s preparations in Chelsea with Fiona getting ready at a close family friend, while Andy and his groomsmen enjoyed pre ceremony drinks around the corner at Chelsea Farmers Market.

Rain had threatened and duly poured down for Fiona’s departure by vintage car, but as so often in England it didn’t last too long, and rain certainly wasn’t going to stop play this day of all days.

The couple decided on a church service at the very grand St Luke’s Church in Sydney Road. It was designed in 1819 and is apparently one of the earliest gothic revival churches in London. It’s certainly a beautiful place for a wedding ceremony.

After confetti and some family photos two vintage red routemaster buses took the entire wedding party to Lords Cricket Ground for the reception. Pimms and snacks were enjoyed by all onboard.

Rain once again played a small part as everyone arrived meaning the drinks reception started in the famous Lords Long Room instead of outside, but after a little while Plan A was resumed and we were all allowed to take the fun upstairs to the Pavilion roof terrace which has great views over the grass of Lords itself. It’s here where I took the deliberate silhouette shot among others.

I used this time to shoot a mix of reportage photography of guests and all the fun and emotion on display, and then a little while away with the newly weds to get those all important ‘couple’ shots. I had a great time with the bridal party and the couple’s friends and family.

I had previously signed disclaimers with the management of Lords in case I fell off the ten foot ladder we arranged I would stand on to take the shot in the Long Room of the entire wedding party! Needless to say I’ve lived to tell the tale.

The wedding breakfast was held in one half of the dedicated function room called The Thomas Lord Suite, and the dancing and partying till late was held in the other.

Once again a fantastic day in Chelsea and Lord’s Cricket Ground, and as I like to say to couple’s when we plan ahead for their big day and I mentioned here: “Rain never stops play.”

London Zoo Wedding Photographers Time Out Recommended

By London Wedding Photographer, Wedding VenuesOne Comment

Without doubt one of the more funky wonderful and unusual places to celebrate your wedding day in the capital is at London Zoo. We are frequent London Zoo wedding photographers, probably the most experienced now, and every time we visit is just as special as the last.

In fact it is an almost surreal experience to work and photograph in such a place with so many great childhood memories. I have very few toys left from those distant days, but I still have the model rhino that my father bought me from the zoo shop when I was six years old.

Wedding ceremony at London Zoo

Another factor that makes a London Zoo wedding such a special affair is the quite frankly excellent staff, from the security to caterers to coordinators on the day. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are all charming and completely unflappable, a bit like ourselves then!

This particular wedding day for Jackie and Chris started with a bridal prep visit to Jackie’s west end hotel. We had been sent the room number by email but unknown to us it had changed at the last minute. We duly knocked on the wrong door only to be greeted by world famous West Indian cricket legend Sir Gary Sobers! A quick giggle and hello’s and goodbye’s later we soon found the new room number and Jackie and her family.

A short cab ride after that we made our way to the zoo, and the Prince Albert Suite where the wedding ceremony and later the reception would be. This is a great space with a super balcolny overlooking the zoo, and down below to the side a good space for a drinks reception and easy access to the rest of the exhibits and experiences. We have of course worked at the Prince Albert Suite before, and also at the other venue onsite for a wedding ceremony and smaller reception, the pretty Mappin Pavilion. We love them both for different reasons.

After a lovely ceremony in the Prince Albert, guests and the newly weds enjoyed their drinks reception and a meerkat experience laid on by zoo staff. After this we took a little time to wander around the zoo with Jackie and Chris to shoot some couple images for them which included stops among others  at the classic Penguin Pool, Edwardian Reptile House and must ride on before you go London Zoo carousel.

Everytime we are there at the carousel the man that operates the ride (forget his name now – sorry!) is always so friendly and accomodating. I always think to myself of how many perhaps hundreds of thousands of times he has operated the ride over the years and still has such an enthusiastic nature.

Even though we have often photographed at London Zoo, we always aim to create unique images for couples that are not just a repeat of what has gone before, whether from ourselves or others as we know these images will be treasured for many years to come. We enjoy the creativity and the pressure!

After the wedding breakfast and speeches in the Prince Albert Suite, guests had a chance to mingle again and have a few free complimentary rides on the carousel which the wedding party now had for their exclusive use.

Later on after cutting of the wedding cake, a first dance and some general boogying, I rode off into the sunset in my imagination on my plastic rhino, I knew it would come in useful again….

Northcote House Wedding and Reception in Sunningdale Park

By Barnet Wedding Photographers, Wedding VenuesNo Comments

We love to discover new wedding venues as well as to return to old favourites, and a Northcote House wedding and reception was one of those fresh discoveries for us. Hollie and Chris came to us through recommendation from John De Rienzo who we have worked with many times and is well known for his cinematic style which complements well with our own approach.

The day began with seperate coverage of both bride and groom’s preparations in Addlestone and Walton on Thames, and then moved to their wedding ceremony at Holy Family Church.

After a traditional throw of confetti it was time for the newly weds to get in their vintage wedding car and head to the reception at the wonderful Northcote House in Sunningdale Park.

Northcote House was built in 1931 and is a Georgian Style manor house which is now grade II listed. I particular liked it’s internal balcony and staircase. After documenting the drinks receptions we went by golf buggy, which was fun, to some of Hollie and Chris’s recommended spots and took some signature couple shots for them.

After the wedding breakfast, cake cutting and speeches, a live band played long into the night for a wedding that will live long in the memory too.

Another lovely Islington Town Hall Wedding & Reception at The Albion

By Barnet Wedding Photographers, Wedding VenuesOne Comment

There was a lot of love in the air at this Islington Town Hall Wedding day. It was small and intimate, fun filled and loving and was covered by just myself David as the entire wedding party was just ten people. Carmen and Andy decided to invite their closest family and friends, and to make it an early 10am ceremony so they could enjoy a private lunch at one of my favourite north London gastro pubs The Albion on Thornhill Road Islington.

I got their early and was met by a guitar and flute player the couple had booked to play at their wedding ceremony. It was a lovely image for me to witness them practicing walking up and down the corridors in the town hall beforehand. Music was good too!

Carmen arrived first in a traditional London back cab so had to hide a for a while as Andy came next with his parents. The ceremony was emotional, and the couple had written their own vows to each other for a more personal feel.

After a traditional confetti thrown on the steps in front of the town hall the wedding party walked along Upper Street a nice winding route to The Albion. I used this time to photograph the couple in various spots along the way including Hoxley & Porter.

Islington has a lot of memories for me as I lived there for many years, ran a business on Essex Road, and two of my children were born there. Almost every street has a story attached, but I enjoy creating new moments and memories for brides and grooms in a photographic sense, and that also means I see familiar places a fresh each time.

The Albion itself is a great Georgian pub, in fact I like it so much that when I’m in the area I try and pop in. It has a fantastic walled beer garden at the back which is great for both eating and drinking, and I feel like I’m somewhere in southern Italy sat out there at times.

Carmen and Andy had booked out the beautiful private dining room upstairs for lunch. Food and service was excellent of course, and I documented their speeches and cake cutting before waving them au revoir.

Fanhams Hall Wedding Photographers, with laughter love and fun in the sun!

If you are going to have a wedding at a stately home in Hertfordshire you would be hard pressed to find a better all round and picturesque venue than Fanhams Hall near Ware. This is the place that Jess and Theo fell in love with, and it’s one of our favourites outside of London.

Groom waits for bride at Fanhams Hall wedding ceremony

We have photographed there many times and our portfolio from this lovely wedding venue is one of the reasons we are often booked to capture a couple’s big day. There is something about our personal experience with the place that gets our creative juices flowing and we are always delighted to return. The air is fresher than central London too!

Fanhams Hall is grade two listed eighteenth century manor house that was further extended in 1901. We particularly like the tasteful mix of old and new, and of course the fantastic and extensive gardens.

Jess chose to get ready at Fanhams on the morning of the big day with the help of her bridesmaids, flower girls and mum. Theo arrived a little later with his family and groomsmen. Naturally we were there and everywhere to get all the details and magic moments as they happened.

The wedding ceremony was in the impressive Long Room which among other things, because of its length, gives a dramatic entrance to any bride and her bridal party. It’s long enough to really savour that classic moment, and it’s good for making the groom wait a little longer before he sees his wife to be!

Confetti throw at Fanhams Hall wedding

Afterwards we had a great confetti throw outside on the lawn and then straight into the drinks reception for all the guests. A little time after that David took the bride and groom away for a while to get some couple shots, before some family and group shots with a difference. Nothing stiff and over formal here!

A typically fabulous wedding breakfast and speeches took place in the famous Jacobean Great Hall. After some memorable speeches, particularly the best men, it was time for cake cutting and dancing the night away.
